Wow!  The February 2018 Free Farmers Market hosted by the Simi Valley Community Garden was by far the highest attended Free Farmers Market to date!

We want to extend our very deepest gratitude to all of our amazing volunteers, partners, sponsors and attendees for their perseverance with the brief rainstorm, which didn't dissuade the participants or the Market from operating as scheduled.  Once again, 100% of the fruits, vegetables, breads, pastrie...

On October 17, 2017, the Simi Valley Community Garden, in an innovative collaboration with Food Forward, a Los Angeles based food gleaning and recovery organization, hosted Ventura County's first Free Farmers Market at the Community Garden.

The Free Farmers Market provided thousands of pounds of fresh produce to local residents, all of which was distributed at no charge to attendees.

The goal of the Free Farmers Market is to connect the vast abunda...

In addition to the donation that we made on Friday, we have another donation of produce to the Samaritan Center!

Today, we donated 180 pounds of healthy organic produce. This would not be possible for the hard work of all of our gardeners and community volunteers in our Sharity Garden!

Our amazing Sharity Garden has been growing all sorts of veggies, and we were able to make another sizeable donation to the Samaritan Center in Simi Valley! We delivered 145 pounds of fresh produce!

We paused ever-so-briefly from our ongoing "Garden of Dreams" projects to welcome over 500 visitors to the Community Garden, as part of the 18th annual Simi Valley Garden Tour, who made our Garden their 6th and final stop of the tour, and the home base for their annual plant sales!  And what an amazing day it was!

Our gardeners enjoyed walking around the garden with all of the attendees on the tour - many of whom had never seen the garden before! We wer...

How sweet it is for your health to eat sweet potatoes! Not only do they taste like dessert, but they provide some surprising health benefits. Many people think about sweet potatoes as being nothing more than plain old potatoes that can tweak our taste buds with some extra flavor. Yet cutting-edge research on sweet potatoes tells us that nothing could be further from the truth as they have so many unique nutritional benefits to offer!  Click here to read mor...

Even if you're getting a bit of a late start shaking off the winter doldrums like many are this year, here is a monthly planting guide for some of the more popular edibles from January through August for the Southern California region. With our wonderfully long growing seasons, we found these recommendations extremely motivational in getting us going on this years crops! And of course, it served as a great reminder of "better late than never"!  Happy Garden...

And just like that, the relentless rainstorms of winter came to an abrupt end, and the spring Gardening seaon has begun!  Bye bye winter blues!

Activity at the Garden has escalated exponentially!  Besides the harvesting of winter crops, cleanups of beds in preparation for spring planting, amazing work-party turnouts, a fantastic first BBQ/Potluck of 2017, first spring plantings in the Sharity Garden, and the welcoming of so many new gardeners and groups to t...

Our wonderful work party just ended, but we accomplished so much today! It was great to see everyone there!

If you've had trouble knowing what to grow in your garden for February, it looks like lettuce is in season. Onions, peppers, and tomatoes are just edging in to the calendar. Some people are still working on preparing their gardens for the spring season in March through mulching their pathways around their plots, putting manure and compost within the p...
